When You Come Back He Runs To You

A common theme that kept coming to my attention this week was the infinite forgiveness of our God.

The first time I saw this was in a Sunday school lesson I was preparing for my kids. We were talking about Adam and Eve—how they fell from a perfect relationship with God by doing the one thing He told them not to do. Although God allowed them to face the consequences of their sin, He didn’t abandon them. Instead, He began a plan of redemption—a plan that would ultimately restore all humanity through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The second example that stood out to me was the story of the prodigal son. This son asked his still-living father for his inheritance—essentially wishing his father were dead. He then squandered it all in reckless living, completely dishonoring his family. Eventually, he found himself broke, desperate, and feeding pigs. In his lowest moment, he decided to return home and ask his father for a servant’s position, no longer feeling worthy to be called his son.

But when he returned, something remarkable happened. His father saw him from a distance and ran to him. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t condemn him. He embraced him, forgave him fully, and welcomed him home as his son.

This is the heart of our God.

Our God is a God of continuous forgiveness. When we humble ourselves, turn back to Him, and ask for forgiveness, He meets us with grace. Not hesitation. Not resentment. Just love.

His forgiveness isn’t limited—it’s infinite.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your endless grace and mercy. Thank You for loving us even when we fall short, and for always welcoming us back with open arms. Help us to humble ourselves before You, to turn away from our sin, and to trust in Your forgiveness. Remind us daily that we are never too far gone for Your love. Teach us to extend that same forgiveness to others, just as You so freely give it to us.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
