Put yourself in their shoes.
Your best friend has been falsely accused—dragged into the middle of an angry riot. Beaten, spat on, mocked, and berated. And you? You feel worthless. Paralyzed by fear.
He was always the one people turned to—the calm in the chaos. He made everything feel okay. And now he just stands there, taking it. He doesn’t defend himself. He doesn’t argue. Why?
Then they accuse him, convict him, and sentence him to death in the most brutal and gruesome way imaginable. After hours of being beaten with whips, bleeding and stripped of his clothes, they dress him in a mock crown and robe. They place a cross on his back—the very cross he will be nailed to—and lead him away to die.
You watch your friend hang there, enduring even more mockery. He looks grieved—sadder than you’ve ever seen him. Broken, as if separated from the very source of life. Then, in agony, he cries out, “My Father, why have You forsaken Me?”
Your heart tears in ways you didn’t know were possible.
Jesus, make this stop.
Jesus, do one of Your miracles.
Jesus… why?
Tears burn your eyes.
Then—thunder. The earth shakes. Jesus says, “It is finished.” Darkness falls. A hush settles over everything… and you break.
Pain. Emptiness. Agony.
You cry and cry until there’s nothing left.
The night becomes a blur as your tears finally run dry.
Saturday comes. Your eyes are swollen. It’s supposed to be a sacred day, but nothing feels sacred. Everything feels wrong. Tarnished.
Is it true? Is He really gone?
He said He was the Savior… so how could the Savior die like that?
So many questions. The line between physical and emotional pain disappears. The loss of Jesus is so deep, it’s felt in every part of you.
Another dark night.
Then Sunday morning.
Your heart is still shattered, trying to figure out how to move forward—when suddenly, the news reaches your ears:
Jesus is risen from the dead.
You know it’s true. You run to the tomb—and it’s empty.
Your heart fills with overwhelming joy.
This is the hope of Easter: joy returning after the deepest despair.
Jesus endured separation from God the Father and the physical suffering of the cross because He was paying for our sin—to secure our salvation, so we could belong to Him.
Because of this, we can become children of God—set apart for His purpose here on earth, and able to live with Him for eternity.
And this gift? It’s freely given.
All we have to do is believe—and begin a relationship with Jesus.
What does that look like?
It starts with recognizing that we are broken and in need of a Savior.
Believing that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose again on the third day—and that He is alive today in heaven.
Then simply ask Him to forgive you and be your Lord and Savior.
What better day to begin your journey with Jesus than Easter Sunday?
