Do The Little Things

Girls’ night at our house is sacred. It’s any time Daddy isn’t home—whether he’s out bowling, at a church meeting, or away for the night. Whatever the reason, it means one thing: it’s girls’ night!
When girls’ night happens, we have our traditions. We turn on the Christmas lights that stretch across the ceiling, and they stay on until Daddy comes home. We wear matching pajamas, watch a movie in Mommy’s bed, and fall asleep there—until Daddy gets home and carries her back to her own bed.
These little traditions may seem silly, but they make the ordinary feel special. They strengthen our bond as mother and daughter and give us something to look forward to together.
I remember similar traditions from when I was a little girl. Ours looked a little different—we’d go to the movie store, rent an old Star Trek VHS or an episode of I Love Lucy, and grab a pizza. We’d eat in the living room and just giggle together. Those are core memories I still hold onto, even as a 40-year-old woman.
So when life gets busy, don’t just focus on the big vacations. Find ways to create little moments of magic in the everyday. Their childhood is fleeting, and your parenthood is a journey you share. Enjoy the little moments together—and make them special.
