The Battle Within

I grew up in church, so there are certain buzzwords and phrases you hear often in that culture. One of those is spiritual warfare.
It may sound dramatic at first, but the older I get, the more I realize—it’s not dramatic at all. It’s very real. I can feel it. There’s a tension deep within me, a pull on the very core of my being between two worlds.
On one hand, there is a growing desire to draw closer and closer to God—to pursue a life that reflects what the Bible calls us to. A life of obedience, surrender, and love for Him.
But living this way makes you stand out. In today’s world, it can make you seem different… even strange. And in those moments, it can be tempting to loosen your convictions just to fit in a little better. That’s where the real tug-of-war for our soul begins.
On the other hand, there is also a very real spiritual battle happening. Scripture tells us that we are not only pulled by our own desires but also actively targeted. We are tempted, attacked, and opposed by the enemy.
The Bible reminds us in
1 Peter 5:8
that “the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”
Knowing this, it’s no wonder the Christian life can feel exhausting at times. Being pulled in two directions—fighting to stay rooted in Christ while resisting the enemy—can feel like a constant battle.
But here’s the truth: we were never meant to fight this battle alone.
God has not left us defenseless. He has given us His Word, His Spirit, and His strength. When we feel weak, He is strong. When we feel overwhelmed, He is our refuge. And when the battle feels relentless, we can stand firm knowing the victory has already been won through Jesus.
So when you feel that tension… when you feel the pull… when the fight feels heavy—
don’t give up.
Lean in.
Draw closer to God. Hold tighter to your convictions. Stand firm in truth.
Because the very fact that there is a battle means your life has purpose—and your soul is worth fighting for.
