What is Good about Good Friday

We call it Good Friday—but there was nothing good about it.
An innocent man was falsely accused, publicly mocked, brutally beaten, and executed in one of the most painful ways imaginable. There was nothing fair about it. Nothing just. Nothing that, at first glance, deserves to be called “good.”
So why do we?
Because what happened that day wasn’t just suffering—it was sacrifice.
It was love in its purest, most unthinkable form. Jesus had the power to stop every second of it. He could have walked away. He could have called it off. But He didn’t—because He chose you.
He took the punishment.
He carried the shame.
He bore the weight of every sin, every failure, every ounce of condemnation—and He carried it to the cross.
And when you really sit with that, the word good doesn’t even come close.
So today, don’t rush past this moment. Let it sink in. Let it be heavy. Let it be personal. Remember the Man who was broken so you could be made whole.
And hold onto this truth: no matter how dark this world feels, no matter how heavy your life may seem—the cross has already declared that love wins, your debt is paid, and your story is not over.
